Why is it that many elderly people find it difficult to eat? As we age, the wear and tear of natural dentition combines with many prosthodontic creations made over the years can lead to a situation where while patient has a full mouth of teeth but find it very difficult to eat properly.
Full mouth reconstruction to improve occlusion is a comprehensive dental procedure designed for patients whose teeth do not meet properly, causing difficulties in chewing and eating. This condition, often resulting from misalignment, wear, or missing teeth, can severely impact a person's ability to enjoy a normal diet and lead to additional health issues like poor nutrition or jaw pain. Full mouth reconstruction involves a combination of restorative treatments, such as crowns, bridges, dental implants, or orthodontics, aimed at realigning the bite and restoring the proper function of the teeth. By carefully evaluating the patient's unique oral anatomy, dentists can create a customized treatment plan that reestablishes harmony between the upper and lower teeth, improves chewing efficiency, and enhances overall oral health and quality of life.
Many implants and teeth unable to meet with heavy wear on natural dentition
3D image of the existing wear pattern on both arches, extremely heavy wear with an implant bridge with one part chipped and missing. Implants were not made to meet his natural teeth in occlusion making it even more difficult to eat for the patient.
Temporary composite bonding made according to the 3D design to increase height of currently worn down teeth for patient to wear for 6 weeks of adaptation. The first thing patient mentioned immediately after this appointment, was that he wants to get a steak in the evening! As he has not eaten a steak for more than 10 years due to malocclusion!
Over the adaptation stage, Patient has reported improvement in eating, reduced pain from malocclusion and is looking forward to receiving his new teeth soon!
