Problem

Crow’s feet normally occur around the sides of the eyes and are more politely referred to as laughter lines. These starts to appear in most people from the age of 30 and gets more pronounced as they get older. This is a sign of aging that occurs in everyone and although some people don’t mind it, it is an important factor for when people assess your age by looking at you.

Causes

As with many skin conditions, exposure to sunlight is a common cause. It is advisable to always try and wear sunglasses as well as using an eye cream with an SPF in it.

Another cause is smoking, as smokers have a tendency to squint in order to protect their eyes from the smoke. The smoke also has a drying effect on the skin which can dehydrate it. Given that smokers can have multiple cigarettes a day the damaging effects can make crow’s feet appear much deeper than they should be.

It is important to keep the skin well hydrated in general and drinking plenty of water will help reduce the appearance of crow’s feet. It is also a good idea to get into the habit of using a good moisturizer twice a day, in the morning and at bedtime which will also help both reduce and delay the signs of crow’s feet.
