A Hydraulic Sinus Lift with Platelet-Rich Fibrin (PRF) is an advanced, minimally invasive technique used in dental implantology to increase bone volume in the posterior maxilla, particularly when the sinus floor is too low for implant placement. This procedure enhances bone regeneration by gently lifting the sinus membrane using hydraulic pressure while incorporating PRF to accelerate healing and improve bone graft integration.

Procedure Overview

Minimally Invasive Approach

  • A small crestal or lateral access point is created to introduce a controlled hydraulic force, which safely and gently lifts the sinus membrane without risking perforation.

Hydraulic Pressure Technique

  • Saline or grafting material is introduced under controlled pressure to create a ballooning effect, allowing an even and atraumatic elevation of the sinus membrane, reducing the risk of complications.

PRF Integration

  • PRF, derived from the patient’s own blood, is rich in platelets, growth factors, and fibrin matrix. It is added to enhance bone regeneration, promote faster healing, reduce post-surgery pain and improve vascularization within the grafted site.

Bone Graft Placement

  • A biocompatible bone graft material is placed beneath the lifted sinus membrane, to encourage new bone growth, creating adequate bone volume for future implant placement.

Healing & Implant Placement

  • The healing process is significantly accelerated by PRF, allowing for better integration of the bone graft and shorter recovery times before implant insertion.
  • The patient will be given prescription antibiotics and anti-congestion nasal spray to use during healing period to prevent post operative complications.
  • The procedure does not produce a lot of post operative pain, generally patients only need to use pain management medication on the first day after the surgery.
Benefits of Hydraulic Sinus Lift with PRF
  • Less Invasive: Compared to traditional sinus lift techniques, hydraulic elevation is the safest of all different types of surgical approach for sinus lift, minimizes trauma and discomfort.
  • Faster Healing: PRF enhances tissue regeneration while reduces inflammation and pain.
  • Reduced Risk of Sinus Perforation: The hydraulic method ensures a controlled and safe membrane elevation to reduce surgical trauma.
  • Higher Implant Success Rate: Improved bone quality and stability optimize long-term implant success.
This technique is particularly suitable for patients with mild to moderate sinus pneumatization and limited residual bone height, offering a safer and more effective alternative to traditional sinus augmentation procedures while significantly reduce discomfort for patient.
